Series Three: Science of Sense Food

The Science of Sense – Food is a Curious Broadcast Production for RTÉjr Funded by Comisiún na Meán with the Television License Fee and RTÉJr.

The Science of Sense – Food is a six part podcast series for RTÉjr presented by Hazel Bermingham and Professor Theodore Bumbledumm. The Science of Sense – Food explores the science behind the food we need for our bodies to thrive. The presenters, along with a team of junior scientists, explore food through interviews, field visits, soundscapes, music, and conversations to gain a deeper understanding of six key food groups: protein/ carbohydrates/ minerals & vitamins/ sugar/ fat and gut micro-biome.  

Each episode is a scientific explanation of these food groups and an insight into different food cultures, history, and sustainability. The episodes include a visit to TU Dublin School of Food Science and Environmental Health to meet a food scientist; a trip to meet with a sustainable food producer; a food waste tip and a recipe for young listeners to try at home.
